"Big fat greek wedding!" ...

In the end of November Kiki got married with Giorgos in Thessaloniki.

Giorgos' friends were there to "help" him with shaving and getting dressed, according to the customs. They also took the chance to torture him a little, "paying him back" this way for the way they were treated in the past by Giorgos, when they themselves had gotten married!

In Greece the relatives do not through rice to the couple after the end of the ceremony but during the ceremony, while the couple is "dansing" the "danse of Isaiah"!
(it's much more fun this way! :-)  )

After the ceremony the couple held the reception at Diavata.

When the dancing and partying started it was the bride that, according to the tradition leaded the dance, with the bridegroom and the bestman following and then the rest of the closest relatives!

Today is the day!

It's a little before 2 o'clock in the morning and i am still up preparing everything for this evenings photography session in Stadshuset.

Reading again and again the schedule where everything is planned in detail by minute, trying to memorise the tables where certain people must absolutely been photographed and not missed, checking the cameras and the lenses, and loading endless quantities of rechargeable batteries...

And then it is the clothes, and the special pass, and the little special concard that we should not forgett. And the ID-cards...

We are photographing the Nobel Festivities !!!

It has been a whole month since we wrote something at our blog!

A lot has happened during this month, among other is two weeks of holidays in Greece, a wedding session there, photos of a wedding in Uppsala, a photo session med Caroline, the opening ceremony of the first center for radiation protection research in SU, etc etc

The idea was to start writing about all these a week ago, as soon as i came back from holidays but i was overhelmed but a couple of hundreds of emails that were waiting for answers plus the questions from the Nobel Foundation if we would like to photograph the new Nobel Laureates and the festivities during the Nobel week in Stockholm, including the royal banquet!!!

keep on visiting this page as we are gonna show photos of the festivities and of course show pictures of all he above mentioned sessions we have had.

Photograph like a turist in the city...

One of our customers needed some pictures from the city that depict motion, colour and ... pulse.

I have to admit that some other things that  i had to do took a little more time than planned, thus i started photographing in the city rather late (now it's november, the sun goes down alredy from 3:30 pm!).

But that was more like luck as the sky became really dark blue and gave nice colours to the photos.

I have to continue though with more photos in a couple of days, hen the rain will stop...

"Allt om festen"!

This week the new issue of the wedding magasine "allt om festen" ("everything about the reception") is coming at the selves of the stores.

The wedding coordinator Johan Petré is giving concrete advise about the party, the what and how of it, and how to make it a success.

The article is completed with 4 photos of which the two are from the fabulous wedding of Joanna and Emanuel, and more precisely from their reception at Berns, that we photographed a year ago!

Flashlight workshop from Nikon,

On Monday i attended the Nikon's workshop "speed of light 2008", at Finlandhuset in Stockholm.

There, except from the chance to see and handle the latest from the Nikon cameras, lenses and accesories, the attendats had also the chance to listen to the famous american photographer Joe mcNally talking about his work and we had also the chance to see him in action, photographing and using creatively multiple Nikon flashes, for four whole hours!

He showed us photos from his portfolio and, wow, what pictues they were!!!

(by the way, i loooved a lens that i had the chance to play a little with; the 200 mm f/2 ED-IF AF-S VR!

But at a price of 39.000 :- SEK the lens alone, i guess i have to be reeeeally kind with Mia to  even have a chance ...  :-)

The new magisters of Stockholm university.

Yesterday it was time again to photograph the new magisters that where awarded their titles (and diplomas) in Aula Magna.

Here you can find all the photos from this ceremony plus the portraits from the studio that were taken afterwords.

Stockholm University 2008 doctoral awards in stadshuset.

It was some weeks ago when the Stockholms university awarded its doctoral degrees for the year 2008 in the magnificent enviroment of the Stadshuset (the City Hall).

The ceremony took place in the Blå hallen.

It started at 5 pm and it was the University's principal who adressed the new doctors as well as the rest of the University's guests (here you can read his speach in swedish).

The first who went up the stairs were the 27  new professors, inaugurated by the principal.

Then it was time for 153 new doctors to receive their diploma in accordance with a wreath or a hat (depending on the institution).

One of the honorary new doctors (latin doctor "honoris causa") was Peter Wallenberg.

During the ceremony we had the chance to listen to a new version of "Mamma Mia", sung by the chorus, in honor of Benny Andersson (from the ABBA) wo was also named honorary doctor this evening.

He showed really moved by it, taking away a couple of tears from is eyes and clapping his hands standing up after the end of the song.

The dinner afterwards was offered at the Gyllene Sal.

After the dinner lots of the new doctors came with their friends and family members to be photographed at our portable studio.

Among them Maria and Göran, whom i had the pleasure to photograph their wedding a couple of years ago! :-)

It's so beautiful to see all the people in their best mood and in really nice clothes enjoying the evening. I like it especiallly to see swedish in national costumes or people from other nationalities in their traditional local costumes.

At the studio we are also visited by representatives of the student union, who also attent the ceremony.

The evening continued as usual with dance and music untill 1 am!

If you would like to see a video of the ceremony follow that link.

The awesome colours of autumn!

Last Friday i was at the Lärarhögskolan (the Stockholm Institute of Education), at the Konradsberg campus, to photograph a booked portrait there as well as to take autumn pictures of the campus.

It's just so beautiful there!

I had not been there since i finished my studies there, a couple of years ago, and it felt so nice to be there again, and to walk around in the area, through the corridors and in the library. Felt good to meet again some friends and teachers who work there too!

But the best was to walk around without too many people and noise. Friday afternnon and most of the students are already gone for the weekend... :-)

Congratulations for the new job, Mia!

Today is the first day at Mia's new job as a photography teacher!

During the summer she got the question from Ådalskolan in Kramfors and she was more than glad to accept. So from now on, for the hole 2008-2009 school year she is going to travel every Thursday from Stockholm to Kramfors (a distance of approximately 500 km) to be with her students, and then come back on Saturday.

That's a part time job and during the rest of the week she will continue working as a photographer, the way she has done for so many years.

I have to admit that i feel a little jealous, not only for the job itself (new photographers, the feeling of offering knowledge, fresh ideas, the new colleagues and working enviroment...) but also for the travelling!
It feels so luxurious to have 4-5 hours in the train just for yourself, to read a book or to do something that you like, without stress!

Well done Mia! Congratulations and have a nice new school year! :-)

Islamic Fashion.

Yesterday, the last day of ramadan, there was a presentation and a catwalk at the Nordiska museet, arranged by the projekt Islamic Fashion in Europe (more information in swedish can be found here).

We were more than happy to see two of our pictures in the pages of "metro" and "Stockholm City" this morning!
